The Emir of Bichi, Nasir Ado Bayero, has flagged off an 8-megawatts hybrid solar power project in Bichi to improve rural electrification and ensure sustainability for development.

A total of 12,000 households in 40 different locations in the nine local government areas under his emirate would benefit from the hybrid solar power plant project, it was gathered.

The mini-grid project was initiated by Sandstream Nigeria Limited in partnership with the federal government’s Rural Electrification Agency (REA) to close the energy gap in Nigeria as well as to provide solar renewable energy sources to improve electricity access and help to boost Dawanau Market to compete globally.

Speaking at the flag-off ceremony, CEO of Sandstream Nigeria Limited, Alhaji Ibrahim Abba Gana, said the company will ensure the success and sustainability of the project to help farmers and traders in Dawanau Market.

In his remarks, the Emir of Bichi appreciated the company and those that partnered to introduce the mini-grid solar power development in Bichi.

The emir also said a committee comprising ward and district heads has been set up to select the villages that will benefit from the initiative.

He also urged those in Dawanau Market to cooperate in ensuring the success and sustainability of the initiative.
