An academic per excellence with years of experience in teaching, research, community services and development projects, Dr. Bukar Jamri, has been appointed the Director, Academic Planing of Yobe state University Damaturu.
Before his appointment Dr. Bukar Jamri was a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Sociology of the University.
Born on 10th June, 1979, Bukar obtained his Senior School Certificate in 2001 at Kur Mohammed Day Secondary School, Bama, he got his first degree from University of Maiduguri in 2004 (B.Sc. Sociology and Anthropology), and later proceeded to Bayero University, Kano and bagged his M.Sc. Sociology in 2012. He was at University of Bradford, UK for Postgraduate Foundation Programme in 2013 and further proceeded to the University of Bakht Al-Ruda, Republic of Sudan for Ph.D. Sociology in 2018.
As a young graduate, Dr. Bukar began displaying his talent as a Youth Corper
As Medical/ Psychiatric Social Worker in Federal Neuro-Psychiatric Hospital Enugu, Enugu State, Nigeria in 2005 and later joined the academic Staff in the Department of Sociology, Yobe State from 2006 to date.
Between the time he joined the University and now, Dr Bukar has had different opportunities to avail his wealth of knowledge to the society. He became the Head, Department of Sociology Yobe State University, 2008-2013, Member of Senate, Yobe State University, Damaturu, 2008-2016 and Member, Governing Council Yobe State University 2011-2016.
Between 2011 and 2016, he was Director Consultancy Services, Yobe State University, Ag. Head, Department of Sociology, 2014-2015, Ag. Dean Faculty of Social and Management Sciences, 2015-2016, External Examiner, Atiku Abubakar College of Legal and Islamic
Studies, Nguru – Yobe State, 2019 to Date and now Director, Academic Planning, of the University.
Dr. Bukar’s wealth of experience and passion for limitless research and proficient applications of knowledge had been instrumental in the various roles he played in academic, national and international development thereby bringing positive change across educational, social, economic and political realms.
He has served in different capacities as member of senate, management and council committees. Member, Academic Activities Monitoring Committee (Management Standing Committee), Chairman, Students Verification/ Registration Committee (Senate-Ad Hoc Committee), Member, Senate Implementation Committee of Diploma, Certificates, Seminar/Workshop Programmes (Senate Ad hoc Committee) and Member, Academic Staff Appraisal and Review Panel (Management Ad Hoc Committee) among others.
He has taught various courses at undergraduate and post graduate level as well as supervised both undergraduate and post graduate project/thesis. He has attended conferences and workshops both within and outside the country as well as published various papers and authored many books.
