The National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), led by Executive Secretary Professor Idris Bugaje, has successfully secured Nigeria’s admission into the World Skills International (WSI), a global organization that promotes vocational education and training.
According to a press release issued by Mrs. Fatima Abubakar, Head of the Media Unit at the NBTE, the Board’s efforts under Prof. Bugaje’s leadership have paid off with Nigeria’s membership confirmed in a letter dated August 20, 2024, signed by Mr. David Hoey, CEO of the WorldSkills International Secretariat in Amsterdam, The Netherlands.
The Bugaje-led NBTE’s leadership and dedication have been instrumental in achieving this milestone, which will provide a platform for Nigeria to participate in skills competitions, training, mentorship, and scholarships.
The journey to this achievement began over 10 years ago, and the NBTE has expressed gratitude to the Honorable Minister of Education, Prof. Tahir Mamman, SAN, and the Team Nigeria led by Mrs. Yemisi Akinrinade, for their support.
This milestone opens up new opportunities for Nigerian youths to showcase their skills on the global stage, bringing pride and recognition to the nation.
The NBTE has called on governments and the private sector to support World Skills Nigeria programs, encouraging youths to prioritize skills development as a career choice and contribute to Nigeria’s growth and prosperity.
By securing Nigeria’s membership in WSI, the Bugaje-led NBTE has demonstrated its commitment to promoting vocational education and training, and empowering Nigerian youths to compete globally.
With this achievement, Nigeria has joined the ranks of countries that prioritize skills development and are committed to providing opportunities for their youths to excel in various trades and skills.
