The Amanyanabo of Abonnema, paramount ruler of Kalabari kingdom in Rivers State, His Royal Majesty, King Disrael Gbobo Bob-Manuel II, Owukori IX, has been appointed as the new Chancellor of Benue State University, Makurdi.

His appointment followed the expiration of the tenure of the immediate past Chancellor, the Emir of Gumi, retired Justice Hassan Gumi, whose five year tenure ended in April, 2020.

The appointment of the new Chancellor by the Visitor of the University, Governor Samuel Ortom, is in exercise of the power vested in him by section 9(1) of the Benue State University Law, 2020.

A delegation of the Benue State Government led by the Commissioner for Education, Professor Dennis Ityavyar, presented the new Chancellor his appointment letter during a visit to Rivers State recently.

In his response after collecting the appointment letter, the new Chancellor accepted the appointment and expressed gratitude to the government and people of Benue State for the honour and pledged to do everything within his power to discharge his duties in a manner that would help the growth of Benue State University.

After the formal presentation of the instrument of office to the new Chancellor, the Benue State delegation also held consultative meetings with officials of the Rivers State government on diverse issues with potentials for collaboration between Benue and Rivers States.

Members of the delegation included the commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources, Dr. Timothy Ijir, Commissioner for Industries and Co-operatives, Barrister Merga Kachina, the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Governing Council, Professor Zacharys Anger Gundu, as well as the Vice Vice-Chancellor, Professor Tor Joe Iorapuu.

Other members of the delegation included the Registrar, Dr. Mfaga Modom, some members of the Governing Council namely, Chief Sebastian Hon (SAN), Mrs. Sarah Mkeryi Amahson as well as Mr. Peter Chieshe, a versatile entrepreneur, among others.
