President Bola Ahmed Tinubu (P-BAT) has approved the appointment of Professor Abdulquadir Ibrahim Abikan as the substantive Director General of Nigerian Institute of Advanced Legal Studies (NIALS).

Professor Abikan, a lecturer with the department of Islamic Law in the Faculty of Law, University of Ilorin, succeeds Professor Muhammed Tawfiq Ladan of the Faculty of Law, Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, who successfully served out his five-year term recently as one of the most impactful Chief Executive of the Institute.

A letter signed by Mrs. B.E Jedi-Agba, Solicitor-General of the Federation and Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Justice, titled, “Appointment as Director-General Nigerian Institute of Advanced Legal Studies”, said, “I write to inform you of your appointment as Director-General and Council Member of Nigerian Institute of Advanced Legal Studies.”

The letter dated 5th December, 2024, said the appointment is with effect from 25th November, 2024, for a single term of five (5) years.

The letter which further read in part, stated that, “the appointment is in conformity with Section 8(1) & (2) of the Nigerian Institute of Advanced Legal Studies Act, 1984 and the provisions of Section 3 (6) of the Universities (Miscellaneous Provisions (Amendment) Act No 25 of 1996.
