The Governing Council of Bingham University, Karu in Nasarawa state has appointed Mr Daburi Bello Misal as Registrar and Dr. Joshua Magoi as Librarian of the University.
A statement from the Directorate of Public Affairs of the University said the appointments followed the recommendation of the Joint Council/Senate Committee for the appointment of the Registrar and University Librarian.
Mr. Misal and Dr Magoi took over from Dr.Mrs Esther J.Dyaji and Associate Prof. Dan Ajibili respectively, whose tenure expired on the 19th of July ,2024.
Mr. Misal is a seasoned university administrator with over 18 years experience. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Mass Communication from the University of Jos and a Master of Science degree in Mass Communication from the Nasarawa State University, Keffi.
He also holds a Master of Arts Degree in Law and Diplomacy from the University of Jos.
He started his working career in Bingham University in 2006 as an Administrative Officer and steadily rose through the ranks and attained the rank of a Deputy Registrar.
He has served in various units and divisions of the Registry which includes: Student Affairs, Academic Division, BOT and Council Affairs, College of Medicine as College Secretary amongst several other postings.
In January 2018, he was appointed as the acting Director of Information and Protocol. He also served as the pioneer Coordinator of Advancement and Linkages Office, a position he occupied while still serving as the Ag. Director of Information and Protocol.
In March 2021, the Directorate of Information and Protocol was re-designated as the Directorate of Public Affairs with Mr. Misal appointed by Management as the substantive Director.
He belongs to several professional bodies which includes: Membership of the Association of Nigeria University Professional Administrators (ANUPA) , Associate Member, Institute of Public Administrators (IPAN) , Member, Corporate Administrators and Secretaries Professional Institute of Nigeria (CASPIN) , member Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) , Fellow Institute of Public Diplomacy and Management, Fellow Institute of Corporate Administrators, Fellow Institute of Professional Managers and Administrators (IPMA) and Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Management Consultants.
He has served in several university committees which include the Search Committee for the position of Vice Chancellor in October 2023.
In 2022, Misal was awarded the Vice Chancellor`s Excellent Service award in recognition of his outstanding service to the University.
Mr. Misal is widely travelled and has visited countries such as United Kingdom, Ukraine, and United States of America amongst others.
While Dr. Joshua Magoi, who until his appointment was the Deputy University Librarian (Associate Professor) at Kaduna State University, is expected to bring bear in University’s library administration his wealth of experience and expertise.
At different points in time, Dr. Magoi was instrumental in managing and administering the university library system and services, providing leadership and guidance in the development of the library’s resources and operations.
His academic journey is a weave of series of notable achievements having began by obtaining a Diploma in Library Science (DLS) from Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria .
He later moved on to obtain a Bachelor of Library Science (BLS) and a Master of Public Administration (MPA) from the University of Maiduguri (Unimaid), a Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE equivalent), a Master of Library and Information Science (MLIS) from Bayero University Kano (BUK), and a PhD from the University of Malaya, Malaysia.
An erudite fellow of high repute, Dr. Magoi, who is an Associate Professor, is set to bring significant advancements to Bingham University’s library.
A revered Scholar, Dr Magoi has participated in numerous conferences and capacity-building workshops in librarianship both locally and internationally.
With a strong commitment to academic excellence and innovation in library services, Dr Joshua Magoi has contributed immensely to his field, having served as a resource person and chairing various workshops and conferences.
His research interests focus on Media Librarianship and the Administration of Academic Library Services with an impressive portfolio of publications in both print and electronic journals, as well as contributions to book chapters.
