As its two-week warning strike reaches the seventh day, the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has confirmed that negotiations with the Federal Government are showing progress on several critical issues.
In a bulletin issued on October 19, 2025, ASUU President Prof. Christopher Piwuna reported that five of the union’s seven key demands are advancing in talks with the government’s Renegotiation Team, led by Yayale Ahmed.
The areas where progress has been recorded include the release of third-party deductions, payment of promotion arrears, mainstreaming of Earned Academic Allowance (EAA), resolution of the confiscated University of Abuja land and addressing the victimization of members at several universities.
In the bulletin titled ‘Strike Bulletin NO. 2,’ Piwuna acknowledged that “some notable Nigerians had also been involved in finding lasting solutions to the impasse.”
The ASUU President commended members for their resolve in implementing the National Executive Council’s strike resolution, while urging continued unity.
“Engagements are continuing on all elements of the draft renegotiated 2009 FGN-ASUU Agreement, guided by the principles of the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA),” Piwuna stated.
He emphasized that “the branch chairperson remains the only reliable source of information at all times,” directing members to attend branch congress meetings promptly for updates on the ongoing negotiations.
