The Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics, Bida Polytechnic Branch, has directed its members to resume academic activities effective from today, Wednesday 24th, September, 2025, following suspension of the strike embarked by its members on the 12th of September.
Chairman of the branch, Comrade Kolo Joshua, who disclosed this in an interview today with Education Monitor in the union’s secretariat, said decision to suspend the strike was taken yesterday during the union’s emergency congress.
He said, “the academic staff Union, at an emergency congress meeting held on Tuesday, 23rd,, September, 2025, at Parah Guest Inn Bida, convened to update and review the ongoing industrial action Which commenced at the close of work on 12th September, 2025, after due deliberations and careful consideration of appeals resolved as follows:
“That the ongoing strike be suspended and members are expected to resume work on Wednesday 24th, September, 2025.”
“That in the spirit of industrial harmony, it is expected that the suspension of the strike will be reciprocated by the following corresponding actions:
“Withdrawal of the temporary suspension of ASUP-BD activities on campus; withdrawal of all disciplinary measures (queries and suspensions) issued to members by the management during the course of industrial action; non-victimization of members with respect to their participation in the strike action and other union activities; reassuring members that the supposed security challenge which informed the suspension of ASUP-BD activities on campus have been brought under control and members are guaranteed safety of their lives and properties on campus and reassurance that the management will continue to pay the owed allowances.”
The Congress finally “emphasizes that meeting the above conditions are fundamental to guaranteeing a fair and conducive atmosphere for constructive dialogue and mutual respect between Management and the Union as well as a hitch free academic session.”
