The Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Prince Lateef Fagbemi, SAN, has inaugurated Professor Muhammed Tawfiq Ladan and 15 others as members of the National Committee for the Review and Amendment of Nigeria’s Child Rights Act, 2003.
The committee members were inaugurated today (Wednesday, 29th April, 2026), at the Federal Ministry of Justice Auditorium, Abuja.
The Attorney-General of the Federation was supported by the Hon. Minister of Women Affairs, Hajia Imaan Sulaiman, the President of the Court of Appeal, Hon. Justice Monica D. Mensem, the UNICEF Country Director, and the committee Chairperson, Hon. Justice Eberechi S. N. Wike of the Court of Appeal.
The Committee was given 7 months, by December 2026, to among other things: review the 23 year old Child Rights Act, identify gaps and challenges of implementation.
The committee has been mandated to consult stakeholders for inputs on best practices, draft proposed amendments to the Act, and submit to the Minister of Justice a comprehensive, adaptive and responsive Draft Child Rights Amendment Bill, 2026 for consideration by both the Federal Executive Council and the National Legislative Assembly.
