Ahmadu Bello University Vice-Chancellor Professor Adamu Ahmed conducted an inspection tour of the institution’s Bulk Metering Unit today, expressing satisfaction with the significant strides made since the appointment of new leadership two months ago. The visit highlighted tangible improvements in the university’s power management infrastructure and operational efficiency.
During the facility tour led by Acting Unit Head Engineer Ahmed Rufai Abubakar, Professor Ahmed noted with pleasure the visible transformation taking shape at the unit. He particularly welcomed the early positive impact on the university’s finances, stating: “I’m delighted to see our electricity cost-saving measures yielding results already.”
The Vice-Chancellor credited this success to the dedicated efforts of unit staff and their cooperation with the new leadership.
The inspection revealed several operational advancements including the successful procurement of essential safety equipment for staff. All operational personnel will begin using newly acquired safety boots, overalls, and raincoats starting next week. Looking ahead, the unit has scheduled comprehensive maintenance of all substations and systems for the year-end academic break period to minimize disruption to teaching and research activities.
Engineer Abubakar outlined critical needs to sustain this progress, requesting technical experts to evaluate all campus transformers and additional personnel to enhance service delivery. He also suggested considering residential quarters allocation for essential staff given the demanding nature of their duties.
In response, Professor Ahmed pledged full institutional support for the unit’s development plans. The university will sponsor specialized certification training to build staff capacity and implement improved welfare packages. “Your work powers our academic mission,” the Vice-Chancellor told technicians, while urging continued teamwork under the new leadership.
Staff representative Umaru Musa expressed gratitude for the administration’s support, assuring the Vice-Chancellor of their unwavering commitment to maintaining the energy infrastructure that drives the university’s operations.
