The Vice Chancellor of Ahmadu Bello University Zaria, Professor Ibrahim Garba, has complied to the directives issued to him by the Malam Adamu Fika-led Governing Council to proceed on Terminal Leave.

The Vice Chancellor handed over affairs of the University on Friday (28/02/2020) to the Institution’s Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic), Professor Danladi Amodu, as directed by the Council.

Professor Garba whose tenure is supposed to end, officially, by 30th April, 2020, had earlier threatened not to comply to the Council’s directive because according to him, the directive was an aberration and has no locus standi in any of the statutory laws of the University.

However, in recognition of the enomous powers of the Council, and giving the unending pressure on Professor Garba, he  honorably threw in the towel, to give peace a chance.

In a short address during the low-key handover ceremony which took place in the conference room of the Vice Chancellor, Professor Garba thanked the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Professor Amodu, for the support he accorded him while he was at the helm of affairs of the University.

Professor Garba called on members of the University Community to support the Acting Vice Chancellor, as he has two solid months to preside over affairs of the University, after which the newly elected and 12th Substantive Vice Chancellor, Professor Kabiru Bala will take over on the 1st of May, 2020.
