Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) in Zaria has inaugurated the Nigerian Academy of Dental Implantology (NADI), a state-of-the-art training facility established within the Faculty of Dentistry. The academy was officially commissioned on September 24, 2025, by Dr. Ian Doyle, President of the International College of Dentists (ICD).
The facility, sponsored by the International Postgraduate Medical College (IPMC) based in Jamaica, is equipped with advanced dental technology, including three implant machines, four dental implantology training repositories, MSD I advanced surgical kits, and numerous dental implants and abutments.
Dr. Doyle emphasized the global significance of dental implantology during the commissioning ceremony, expressing satisfaction with the center’s facilities and thanking the university and IPMC for the invitation.
Professor Christopher Ogunsalu, President of IPMC and an oral and maxillofacial surgeon, played a pivotal role in the academy’s establishment, donating equipment worth over $18,000. He stated that his vision is for the dental school to eventually become self-sustaining and reach excellence with ABU’s support.
ABU Vice-Chancellor Professor Adamu Ahmed described the occasion as “amazing” and committed to continuously equipping the center, expressing gratitude to both international partners for their contribution.
The event included cultural engagements, with the guests paying a courtesy visit to the Emir of Zazzau, His Highness Malam Ahmed Nuhu Bamalli, and attending theatrical performances by students from the Department of Theatre and Performing Arts at the ABU Drama Village.
