The Federal University Dutsin-Ma (FUDMA) in Katsina State has appointed Dr. Musa Ajiya, a member of the Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Council, as its new Registrar. This decision was made by the university’s Governing Council at its 29th regular meeting held in Dutse, Jigawa State.

Dr. Ajiya, who hails from Biu Local Government Area of Borno State, Nigeria, has a rich background that spans over two decades. Born in Biu, he started his career in the private financial sector, working with prominent institutions like UBA Plc, Standard Trust Bank Plc, and New Nigeria Bank Ltd.

In 2006, he joined Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) as the Chief Resource Mobilization Officer and rose through the ranks to become a Deputy Registrar. During his time at ABU, he also served as an elected member of the Governing Council representing Congregation and held various other positions, including Member of the Governing Board of Institute of Administration, Member of the Governing Board of ABU Estate Management Company, and Member of the Honorary Degrees Council Committee.

Dr. Ajiya’s academic achievements are equally impressive. He holds a (link unavailable) (Hons) in Economics from the University of Maiduguri, a Postgraduate Diploma in Management, and advanced degrees in International Affairs & Diplomacy, Master of Philosophy, and Doctor of Philosophy in International Relations from Ahmadu Bello University.

As a researcher, Dr. Ajiya has focused on conflict and peace studies, environment, democracy, and human rights issues, as well as multilateral organizations. He has written three books on these topics, including “Alternatives Window for African Energy Transition: A Panacea to Climate Change Crises,” “An Examination of Remedies Oil Extractive Externalities: A Study of the Rivers State of Nigeria’s Oil Industry,” and “Understanding Climate Finance: The Myth, Processes and Accessibility.”

In addition to his academic and professional pursuits, Dr. Ajiya has served in various capacities, including Chief Mobilisation Officer of the ABU Directorate of University Advancement, Institute Secretary of the Institute of Education, ABU, and Institute Secretary of the National Animal Production Research Institute (NAPRI), Shika-Zaria. He was also a Special Assistant to the ABU Vice-Chancellor and College Secretary, College of Medical Sciences, ABU Zaria.

Dr. Ajiya is a widely traveled individual who has attended various local and international conferences. He is also a member of several recognized professional bodies, including the Chartered Institute of Administration of Nigeria (FCIA), the Environmental Management and Disaster Risk Reduction Institute (FEMDRRI), and the Nigerian Institute of Management (ANIM). He is also an Associate Member of the Association of University Administrators U.K. (AUA UK) and the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE), UK.

The university’s spokesman, Nasir Abdul, confirmed that Dr. Ajiya’s appointment followed the recommendation of a special council/Senate joint selection board, where he emerged as the top candidate among six shortlisted applicants.
