Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) has realized its ambition of becoming a premier postgraduate institution, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Adamu Ahmed announced at the matriculation ceremony for newly admitted postgraduate students.
Prof. Ahmed revealed that the university had critically reviewed its postgraduate programs to ensure they remain relevant and responsive to contemporary societal challenges. This effort has culminated in the renaming of the School of Postgraduate Studies to ‘The Postgraduate College’.
With a total of 529 postgraduate programs and over 7,000 students, ABU has solidified its position as a hub for advanced education. Prof. Ahmed assured students that measures are in place to ensure timely graduation.
In his address, Provost of the Postgraduate College, Prof. Mohammed Nasir Shuaibu, disclosed that the university received 6,953 postgraduate applications for the 2024/2025 academic session. After a rigorous admission process, 5,384 applicants were offered admission, with 3,587 successfully screened and over 95% completing registration formalities.
Dignitaries, including the Dean of Students, Prof. Sahalu B. Junaidu, Registrar Malam Rabiu Samaila, and Director of University Health Services, Prof. M.M. Dauda, offered counsel on university regulations, security, and health issues.
The Vice-Chancellor congratulated the fresh students on their admission and urged them to maintain a peaceful and conducive environment for learning.
