Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) marked its 63rd anniversary on October 4, 2025, with a low-key celebration honoring its numerous alumni who have made a significant impact globally. The university recognized former President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua, former Vice Presidents Atiku Abubakar and Namadi Sambo, as well as other distinguished alumni, including former Chief Justices of Nigeria, governors, ministers, legislators, captains of industry, and prominent traditional rulers.
ABU Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Adamu Ahmed, speaking at a press conference to commemorate the anniversary, highlighted the university’s pride in its alumni, who have excelled nationally, regionally, and globally. He specifically acknowledged the current Speaker of the Federal House of Representatives, Dr. Tajuddeen Abbas, an outstanding alumnus, for his concern for the university.
Prof. Ahmed also expressed gratitude for the support received from the Governor of Kaduna State, as well as the Governors of Zamfara and Katsina, all of whom are alumni of the university. He challenged the alumni community to give back to the institution, emphasizing that they have the resources, talent, and strategic position to change the narrative of ABU.
The Vice-Chancellor urged alumni to support the university through endowment gifts, annual giving, and generous donations, securing ABU’s future for generations to come. “The Sardauna gave you opportunity, and now it is time to give back,” he said, adding that what is needed is the will to make a difference.
By celebrating its alumni and their achievements, ABU reaffirms its commitment to nurturing talent and fostering excellence. The university’s legacy continues to inspire and empower future generations.
