The Governing Council of Prince Abubakar Audu University has approved the promotion of eight lecturers to the rank of Professor and elevated seventeen others to the position of Reader (Associate Professor), as part of efforts to enhance academic standards and strengthen research development within the institution.
The decision was taken at the University’s 72nd Regular Governing Council Meeting held on May 22, 2026, at the Council Chamber, with the Council Chairman, Professor Mohammed Suleiman Audu, presiding.
In a statement released by the institution’s Public Relations Officer, Uredo Omale, the promotions were based on recommendations presented by the Appointments and Promotion Committee (A&PC).
Those promoted to the rank of Professor include Dr. Okpe Ameh Alfa of the Department of Animal Production, Dr. Onimisi Meriyamoh Mero from Fisheries and Aquaculture, Dr. Okpanachi Martin Abdubala of Animal and Environmental Biology, Dr. Friday John Sale of Pure and Industrial Chemistry, Dr. Saad Murtala of Arabic and Islamic Studies, Dr. Okpanachi Anthony of Philosophy, Dr. Sani Idris Ahmed of Economics, and Dr. Hassan Achimugu of Public Administration.
The Council also approved the elevation of seventeen academic staff members to the rank of Reader. Among them are Dr. Attaugwu Roseline Nwabogo of Food, Nutrition and Home Science, Dr. Amana Gabriel Unekwu of Animal and Environmental Biology, Dr. Ameh E. Mark and Dr. Larayetan Rotimi Abisoye from Pure and Industrial Chemistry, Dr. Afere Benson Eniola of Mathematical Sciences, Dr. Abraham Oyguh Joseph of Microbiology, and Dr. Yusuf Shrifudeen from Arabic and Islamic Studies.
Others promoted are Dr. Obera Joy Aladi of Arts Education (English Language), Dr. Muraina Kamilu Olanrewaju of Educational Foundations, Dr. Emmanuel Friday Titus of Medicinal Chemistry, Dr. (Mrs.) Agbana Olubunmi Funmilayo of Mass Communication, Dr. Aliu Monday and Dr. Usman Muhammed of Political Science, Dr. Okeme Ukwumonu Patrick of Public Administration, Dr. Shaibu Joshua Shaka of Social Science Education, Dr. Atoyebi Timothy Abayomi of Sociology, and Dr. Ugwu James Ike of Accounting.
According to the Council, the promotions demonstrate the University’s commitment to recognising academic excellence, rewarding hard work, and promoting quality teaching and impactful research.
The Council further reiterated its dedication to policies that encourage staff development, institutional advancement, and global academic relevance.
Speaking at the meeting, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Salisu Ogbo Usman, congratulated the promoted scholars and commended their contributions to teaching, research, and community engagement.
He encouraged them to maintain high academic standards, support the development of younger academics, and continue contributing to the growth of the University and the broader academic sector.
Professor Usman also reaffirmed the Management’s commitment to creating an enabling environment for professional growth, academic excellence, and institutional progress.
