The ceremony which was held yesterday at the university’s iconic Mamman Kwantagora Square celebrated a total of 5,756 graduates with Higher Degrees, including 595 PhDs, 4,229 Masters, 53 MPhil and 879 Postgraduate Diplomas; and 16,196 graduates with Bachelors’ Degrees, including 300 First Class degrees, 4,016 Second Class (Upper Division), 9,098 Second Class (Lower Division), 2,253 Third Class Honours, 42 Pass degrees, and 367 Unclassified degrees.

In his welcome address, the Chancellor of the university, His Majesty, Nnaemeka Alfred Achebe congratulated the graduands for completing their academic sojourn and commencement of a new chapter in their lives, which is full challenges, but also even greater opportunities.

The Chancellor admonished the graduands to think creatively and leverage technology as it rapidly evolves in confronting the challenges that will come their way after graduation, urging them to tap on the innumerable opportunities that abound in Nigeria for their personal advancement and be mindful about how they can create their own world and manage their lives through self-employment rather than relying on white collar jobs.

“You are a product of the highest standards for which your University is well known. I urge you to continue to uphold those standards and be shining examples to others around you,” he added.

The Ahmadu Bello University’s Vice Chancellor, Professor Kabiru Bala also called upon the graduands to be good ambassadors of their Alma mater wherever they may find themselves in the future.

In a speech he delivered while handing over the graduands to the President of the ABU Alumni Association Worldwide, Malam Adamu Mamman Kwantagora, the Vice Chancellor reminded them that “conferment of the degrees is for both character and academic performance, and the demonstration of the good character and qualification is how you represent your alma mater hereafter.”

“Go out today and succeed, go and take charge and apply what you have learned from here. We also urge you to succeed and to look back with pride to where you’re coming from, with a great zeal to give back and to develop Ahmadu Bello University,” he stressed.
