Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed (Kauran Daular Usmaniyya), has approved the appointment of Alhaji Haruna Yunusa Muhammadu as the 17th Emir of Ningi.
The 17th Emir of the ancient and historic Ningi Emirate is the eldest son of the 16th Emir, Alhaji (Dr) Yunusa Muhammadu Danyaya, who died last week (24/08/2024).
Announcing the appointment in a letter signed by the Special Adviser – Media and Publicity to the governor, Alhaji Mukhtar Mohammed Gidado, said the decision to appoint the 1st Class Status Emir is in exercise of the powers conferred on the governor by Cap. 24 Item 3(1) of the laws of Bauchi State of Nigeria (Appointment of Emirs/Chiefs and Deposition 1991), and the recommendation of the Kingmakers, under the chairmanship of Wazirin Ningi, Ambassador Shuaibu Ahmad Adamu.
The appointment, which was earlier conveyed to the Emir in a letter signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Barr Ibrahim Muhammad Kashim, said, “Bauchi State Government expresses confidence in the new Emir’s ability to continue with the legacy of his late father in fostering unity, peace, and development in the Emirate, and in Bauchi State as a whole”.
The letter stressed that Bauchi State Government under the inspirational leadership of Governor Bala Mohammed remains committed to supporting traditional institutions in the state as they play a crucial role in maintaining peace and progress in our communities and in the country at large.
The Governor prayed for the peaceful repose of the soul of the late Emir and also extends his warm felicitations and prayers for good health, long life, and a successful reign of the new Emir.
The 68-year-old new Emir received allegiance today in a peaceful ceremony in the ancient Palace from two others who contested the exalted stool with him, Kingmakers, family members of all the ruling houses, friends, well-wishers, and the general public, following his appointment by the Governor of Bauchi state, out of the three top contenders selected by the Kingmakers.
In his speech, the Emir, who spoke through Barden Ningi, Alhaji Umaru Barau, thanked the Almighty Allah who decreed his appointment as the 17th Emir of Ningi to occupy the stool of his ancestors. He also thanked the Bauchi state governor for picking him out of the three top contenders of the stool in view of the confidence he has in him.
To complement this gesture, the Emir promised to justify the confidence reposed on him, promising to support the government in the execution of his people-oriented policies. He thanked all the more than 10 total contenders of the stool for accepting and pledging their allegiance to him as the divinely chosen 17th Emir of Ningi.
He commended them for their decision to contest the stool with him, which he said they were entitled to, as their hereditary rights. He called on them and all illustrious and patriotic sons and daughters of the Emirate to join hands with him in rewriting the history of the Emirate and to make it the envy of other Emirates in the country.
