Members of Ahmadu Bello University Governing Council under the leadership of Mahmud Yayale Ahmed have paid a courtesy visit to the Emir of Zazzau, Malam Ahmed Nuhu Bamalli, CFR.
Briefing the Emir on the purpose of the visit, Ahmed stated that they were at the palace to reaffirm their support, loyalty and respect for the Emir’s royalty.
Ahmed, who is also the Ajiyan Katagum, explained that Zazzau Emirate had been known as the centre of learning since before the Fulani Jihad.
According to him, Ahmadu Bello University had attained an international ranking known all over the planet and had been receiving support from the Zazzau Emirate since its establishment in the 1960s.
He said that the Council, Senate, Convocation, Congregation and Management belonged to the Emir, and therefore they needed his support to move forward.
Ahmed highlighted the lack of adequate academic staff who were deeply rooted in their academic disciplines and insufficient modern facilities as some of the challenges faced by the University.
The Chairman appreciated the Emir for advising him to conduct the selection process of the Vice-Chancellor of the University with the fear of Allah.
He prayed to God to continue to protect and bless the reign of the Emir.
Responding, the Emir of Zazzau, Ahmed Nuhu Bamalli, CFR commended the Chairman and members
of the Governing Council for conducting one of the most successful selection processes for appointing the new Vice-Chancellor in the institution’s histor.
The Emir said that the Vice-Chancellor, Prof Adamu Ahmed, was one of the brothers of the Emirate, and that they had known each other for almost 40 years.
The royal father also said that when Prof Ahmed emerged, he expressed gratitude to Almighty Allah for choosing the best for the University.
He urged the Vice-Chancellor to build on the foundation put in place by his predecessors, and expressed optimism that Prof Ahmed would do well.
Bamalli called on the Vice-Chancellor to always consult where necessary, stressing that anytime the University needed any assistance, their doors were always open.
The Emir thanked the Chairman and other members of the Council for the visit and wished them journey mercies back to their various destinations.
Those on the entourage of the Council Chairman for the courtesy visit to the Emir were Principal Officers of the University, Internal and External members of the University Governing Council.
