Selection Of ABU VC: FG Warns VC, Chancellor Not To Scuttle Process
By Waziri Isa Adam
The Federal Government has warmed both the outgoing Vice Chancellor of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Professor Ibrahim Garba, and Chancellor, the Obi of Onitsha, not to scuttle the selection of the institution’s new Vice Chancellor which kicks up today, Monday 20th, 2020.
The warning follows desperate but failed attempts by the duo of the Vice Chancellor and Chancellor of the University to scuttle the process when they could not manipulate the Pro-chancellor and Chairman of the University’s Governing Council, Mallam Adamu Fika.
The Federal government, in a letter addressed to the Vice Chancellor, dated 17/01/2020, signed by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education, Arc Sonny S.T. Echono fni, on behalf of the Minister, Malam Adamu Adamu, faulted the outgoing VC for directing the University’s Registrar to stop the process which he falsely claimed that was violated.
The VC had in a protest letter to the Minister raised alarm that the process for the selection of the Vice Chancellor was compromised by the Pro-chancellor in connivance with some members of the council to pave way for a particular candidate.
The Federal government therefore directed the Vice Chancellor not to do anything to do anything to undermine the process which did not violate established procedure of selection of Vice Chancellor.
