After a decisive vote by the Senate Council during the 130th Special Senate Meeting on Monday, Prof. Aminu Ado, currently the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academics) was appointed as the Acting Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University Dutsin-Ma (FUDMA), taking over Prof. Armaya’u Hamisu Bichi.
Prof. Ado was the only candidate nominated for the position, receiving an overwhelming 92 votes in support, with just two dissenting.
Prof. Ado will take over from the outgoing Vice Chancellor, Prof. Armaya’u Hamisu Bichi, whose five-year tenure concludes on May 12, 2025.
At the meeting, Prof. Bichi stressed the need for seamless leadership transition, stating that the acting appointment ensures stability while the search for a permanent Vice Chancellor continues.
“Prof. Aminu Ado brings a wealth of experience and a deep-rooted history of service within FUDMA,” Bichi remarked.
With a distinguished career at the university, Prof. Ado joined FUDMA in 2017 as a Senior Lecturer from Kaduna Polytechnic. Over the years, he has held key roles, including Head of the Department of Microbiology, Dean of the Faculty of Life Sciences, and Acting Provost of the College of Health Sciences. Promoted to full Professor in 2024, he has served as Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academics) since 2021.
A native of Kafur LGA in Katsina State, Prof. Ado was born in Kankia on June 13, 1972. He attended Dudi Primary School in Malumfashi before completing his secondary education in Kaduna and Katsina. He holds a BSc and MSc in Microbiology from Bayero University, Kano, and a PhD in Ecology and Environmental Studies from the Nigerian Defence Academy, Kaduna (2015).
Beyond academia, he was honored as “Sarakin Galadiman Katsina” in 2022 by retired Justice Sadiq Abdullahi Mahuta, the Galadiman Katsina and District Head of Malumfashi.
The university community anticipates a smooth transition as Prof. Ado prepares to assume his new role.
