In a major boost for Nigeria’s education sector, the Federal Government has introduced the Tertiary Institution Staff Support Fund (TISSF), a new loan program offering up to ₦10 million to academic and non-academic staff across universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education.

The initiative, announced Sunday by Federal Ministry of Education spokesperson Folasade Boriowo, is designed to enhance welfare and professional growth through financial assistance for transportation, medical needs, and small business ventures like poultry farming.

“Each eligible staff member can access up to ₦10 million, capped at 33.3% of their gross annual salary,” the statement clarified.

Education Minister Dr. Maruf Alausa positioned TISSF as a cornerstone of President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, stating: “This is not just about welfare. It is about empowerment. We are ensuring our education workforce is supported to live well, grow professionally, and contribute to institutional excellence.”

The Bank of Industry will oversee disbursements to ensure transparency, with sector leaders including TETFund’s Executive Secretary and institution heads endorsing the program as a timely morale booster.

The Ministry pledged ongoing collaboration with stakeholders to strengthen Nigeria’s tertiary education workforce through this innovative support mechanism.
