The 2025 Africa Forum and Conference on Sustainable Logistics and Green Transport Development for Africa has kicked off at the Kigali Convention Centre. The conference, themed “How to Move Things Without Moving Us Closer to a Climate Crisis,” brings together experts, innovators, and policymakers to discuss sustainable solutions for Africa’s logistics and transport systems.
In his opening remarks, Ibrahim A. Jibril, CILT International Vice President and Chairman of Africa Forum, welcomed participants to the conference, emphasizing the need for careful evaluation and judgment in addressing the challenges of climate change, urbanization, and economic development.
Jibril noted that Africa’s rapidly growing population, expanding urbanization, and increasing trade activities demand efficient logistics and transport systems. However, this growth must be balanced with the need to reduce carbon emissions, protect natural resources, and build resilience to climate change.
The conference aims to explore innovative and sustainable solutions, including electric vehicles, renewable energy-powered public transport, smart logistics networks, and green supply chains. Jibril emphasized the importance of collaboration among governments, private sector players, development partners, and civil society to create enabling policies, invest in sustainable infrastructure, and foster innovation.
Africa has abundant opportunities in renewable energy resources, positioning it as a global leader in the green energy revolution. The conference will discuss efforts to progress from traditional, carbon-intensive models to embracing cutting-edge solutions.
Jibril highlighted the need for inclusivity, ensuring that rural and underserved communities benefit from advancements in sustainable logistics and green transport. The conference will explore policies that work on the ground, including those that address infrastructure challenges.
The conference features an incredible lineup of speakers, innovators, and policymakers who have mastered the art of turning green dreams into reality. Jibril noted that sustainable logistics and green transport are not just about reducing emissions but also about creating a more equitable, prosperous, and resilient Africa.
Participants will discuss electric mobility, smart logistics, renewable energy in transport, and policies that deliver results. Jibril emphasized that sustainable logistics and green transport are essential pillars for achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure) and SDG 13 (Climate Action).
The conference aims to build a future where economic growth and environmental management are conjointly handled. Jibril concluded by emphasizing the importance of collaboration and dialogue in solving big problems, saying, “Let’s get started, share ideas, challenge each other, and most importantly, let’s keep the discussion alive.”
The 2025 Africa Forum and Conference promises to be an informative and unforgettable event, bringing together experts and stakeholders to shape the future of sustainable logistics and green transport in Africa.
