Ahmadu Bello University’s Coordination Centre for Student Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES) has organised a one day orientation for students who are proceeding for the 2024/2025 SIWES programme across the country.

The exercise, which took place at Mamman Kontagora Square today (Tuesday, 13th May, 2025), was in collaboration with the Industrial Training Fund (ITF).

Speaking at the event, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Adamu Ahmed, said the essence of the programme was for the students to be exposed to the practical aspects of the theory part they had already learned.

Represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic, Prof Raymond B Bako, the Vice-Chancellor also said that the purpose was simply to bridge the gap between the theory and practical aspects.

Prof. Ahmed was of the belief that the industrial training would contribute tremendously to the students future career.

He enjoined the students to imbibe the spirit of hard work and dedication. Ahmed also urged them to be good ambassadors of the University.

Also speaking, the Area Manager, Industrial Training Fund (ITF), Kaduna Area Office, Mrs. Habiba Mason Javan, explained that the programme was specifically designed to guide and prepare students on their industrial attachment.

Mrs. Javan, who was represented by the SIWES Officer, Kaduna, Malam Muhammed Salisu, stressed that ITF had helped students to develop new skills and have a valuable experience both personal and professional.

In his opening remarks at the occasion, the SIWES Coordinator for Ahmadu Bello University, Prof. Nasiru Rabiu, charged the students to take the programme seriously, as it was a six month course.

The rationale behind the programme, according to him, was for the students to have industrial skills that would be of beneficial to them and the University in general.

Prof. Rabiu solicited for more intervention from the University Management in actualizing the set goals of the scheme.

The Ag. Registrar, Ahmadu Bello University, Dr Aliyu Dalha Kankia, prayed for the students and wished them a successful industrial work experience.
