Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) is set to benefit from a N5 billion Federal Government intervention initiative secured by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Dr. Tajuddeen Abbas.
The announcement was made by the Chairman of Zaria Local Government, Engr. Jameel Ahmad Muhammad, during a visit to the outgoing Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Kabiru Bala.
Engr. Jameel, an alumnus of the university, revealed that the Speaker had previously facilitated key projects at the Kongo Campus, including a solar mini-grid installation and the rehabilitation of the Kongo Sports Complex, adding that the latest intervention would focus on the Samaru Campus.
“The Speaker would build a new building for the Faculty of Social Sciences and others based on the recommendation of the University,” he stated.
“He also planned to facilitate the renovation of other facilities at the Kongo Campus.”
In his response, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Kabiru Bala commended Dr. Abbas for the support, noting that the Faculty of Social Sciences was originally not part of ABU’s master plan but emerged due to academic expansions.
Prof. Bala issued a stern charge to the contractor, Laralec Ultimate Limited, emphasizing quality over aesthetics.
“The University would rather not have the projects in the first place if standards would be compromised,” he declared.
He further urged other alumni to follow the Speaker’s example in giving back to their alma mater.
