The Ahmadu Bello University Basketball Foundation (ABUBBF) hosted a two-day basketball tournament in honor of the university’s 14th Vice-Chancellor, Professor Adamu Ahmed.
Held at the ABU Outdoor Basketball Court, the event, themed “Celebrating Leadership, Excellence, and Sportsmanship,” commenced on Thursday with a match between the ABU Kings Team and the BUK Basketball Team. The following day featured an exciting face-off between two ABU teams—Team Prof. Adamu and Team Engr. Sambo.
Speaking at the event, Engr. Dr. M. A. Sambo, National Secretary of the ABU Basketball Foundation, emphasized that the tournament was a tribute to Prof. Adamu’s remarkable ascent to the pinnacle of academic leadership.
“Prof. Adamu Ahmed is not only a distinguished academic but also a passionate sportsman whose dedication to basketball continues to inspire,” Engr. Sambo remarked.
“As a former student, he represented ABU at the national level, excelling both on and off the court. In recognition of his unwavering commitment to sports and youth development, he was appointed National Chairman of the ABU Basketball Foundation. His leadership has been pivotal in advancing our mission to nurture talent and foster excellence within and beyond the university.”
Describing Prof. Adamu as the “embodiment of excellence, discipline, and resilience,” Engr. Sambo added, “His appointment as Vice-Chancellor is not just a personal milestone but a victory for the entire ABU Basketball family and a testament to the synergy between sportsmanship and academia. We are confident that under his leadership, ABU basketball will reach unprecedented heights, setting new benchmarks for future generations of athletes and scholars.”
In his remarks, Prof. Adamu expressed gratitude to the players, students, and attendees for their overwhelming support. Demonstrating humility and appreciation, he personally greeted spectators around the court before concluding the event by presenting medals to the competitors.
The tournament not only celebrated Prof. Adamu’s legacy but also reinforced the university’s commitment to fostering leadership, teamwork, and sporting excellence.
