The Governing Council of the Federal University Dutsin-Ma (FUDMA), under the Chairmanship of HE Ali Abubakar Jatau, has approved the promotion of 609 Senior Teaching and Non-teaching Staff of the University.

This is contained in a statement from the Director, Directorate of Human Resources Management, Mr. Lawal Yakub Olarewaju.

According to the statement, the promotion takes effect from October 1, 2026, and marks the end of the 2026 Promotion Exercise which started with the issuance of promotion call memo by the Registry Department.

A breakdown of the promotion shows that 16 and 19 senior teaching staff were promoted to the ranks of Professors and Readers respectively, subject to favourable external assessments.

In the Non-teaching category, two senior staff were promoted to the rank of Directors; four to the position of Deputy Registrars in the Registry Department; one to the position of Deputy Bursar in the Bursary Department; and four to the rank of Deputy Directors.

The Director of Human Resources Management, Lawal Olarewaju, disclosed that after passing through the various complexes, all eligible staff were subsequently recommended to the Central Appointments and Promotion Committee (CA&PC), chaired by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. M.K. Othman.

He added that the CA&PC, at the end of its meeting, submitted the list of all eligible senior staff for promotion to the Governing Council for approval.

All benefitting staff have received messages of congratulations through their emails, on behalf of the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Mohammed Khalid Othman.

They have also been notified that their promotion letters will be ready for collection from Friday, October 2, 2026, in the Directorate of Human Resources Management.

The Directorate noted that this is the first time in the history of the University that promotion letters are being issued in the first working day of October.

It could be recalled that the 2026 Promotion Exercise, the first to be superintended by the current Vice Chancellor, Prof. M.K. Othman, started in June this year, when the Registry Department issued a memo for all Faculties, Departments and Units, to kick-start the process through the submission of the lists of recommended and non-recommended staff for promotion.
