The Academic Forum of the Islamic Movement, ABU Zaria Chapter, today held a Conference on Islamic Thought at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, with the theme, “Towards an Intellectual Revolution: Reclaiming the Identity and Future of the Muslim Ummah.”
The conference brought together student-members of the Forum and other attendees to discuss contemporary issues affecting Islamic thought, Muslim unity and the intellectual development of Muslim students.
The programme opened with a recitation from the Holy Qur’an, followed by two paper presentations by student-members of the Forum.
The first presentation, titled “Islamic Thought in the Contemporary World: Challenges, Opportunities and the Quest for Intellectual Revival,” explored contemporary challenges to Islamic thought and the need for intellectual renewal.
A panel discussion followed, centred on the topic, “What Does an Intellectual Revolution Mean for the Muslim Student Today?” The session featured three panellists; Comrade Ahmad Shuaibu Isa, a Political Analyst and Activists; Waziri Mahdi Isa, a journalist; Ummukulthum Isma’il, a PG student at ABU; and a moderator, Engr. Fatima Garba Yusuf, with discussions focusing on the role of Muslim students in pursuing intellectual growth and responding to contemporary challenges.
Then came the second presentation, “Muslim Unity in the Face of Contemporary Challenges: Beyond Sectarian and National Boundaries,” examined the importance of Muslim unity beyond sectarian and national divisions.
The conference also featured an interactive question-and-answer session, allowing attendees to engage the speakers and panellists on issues raised during the presentations and discussions.
The programme concluded with a group photograph, marking the end of the conference.
