• Approves 2026/2027 Academic Calendar, Relocation of 9 Faculties, and Establishment of Centre for Hausa Language

The Senate of the Federal University Dutsin-Ma, FUDMA, has approved the expulsion of one student and the rustication of 66 others for their involvement in examination malpractices during the Second Semester examinations conducted in May 2026.
The decision was taken at the 140th Regular Senate meeting held on Thursday, 16th July, 2026 at the Twin Theatre, FUDMA Main Campus.
Chairing the meeting, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Mohammed Khalid Othman, said the decision was in line with Section 13.3, Sub-section 13.3c of the University’s Academic Policy on Examination Irregularity and Academic Misconducts. He stated that the affected students were given the opportunity to defend themselves before the Committee on Examination Misconduct recommended the punitive measures.
Prof. Othman reiterated the commitment of his administration to safeguarding the image of FUDMA by ensuring that all those caught contravening the laws and regulations of the University were punished without compromise.
He noted that his administration was poised to ensure “absolute adherence to rule of law in all ramifications to boost the integrity of the University among its counterparts in the country.”
“Will not condone indiscipline and immorality,” he said, adding that making discipline “one of his cardinal agenda” was central to his leadership.
Speaking on the University calendar, Prof. Othman said the Senate’s decision was taken to allow students of the University to exercise their franchise by being in their respective towns and villages to partake in the forthcoming 2027 General Elections.
The Vice Chancellor further disclosed that about nine Faculties would be moved to the Main Campus from the 2026/2027 academic session. He said the move was to decongest the Take-off Campus which “was filled to the brim with staff and students.”
“The Management is doing everything humanly possible to make the Main campus conducive for teaching, learning and research through the provision of maximum security and assorted amenities, to make it comfortable to members of the University community,” he said.
“You will agree with me that the Take-off campus is overcrowded, hence the need for the movement of the Faculties to the Main campus. Going to the Main campus to work is not optional, but mandatory to all staff to comply with the directive,” he emphasized.
Prof. Othman also announced that a 100-seat capacity Compressed Natural Gas, CNG, bus would soon be procured to be shuttling between the two campuses free of charge to enhance transportation. He added that the University management was also making concerted efforts to complement the efforts of FUDMA unions towards enhancing the wellbeing of members of the University community.
The VC further advised that FUDMA, being an Information and Communication Technology, ICT, driven University, finds it expedient to key into the Blackboard Management Learning System which is a modern method of imparting knowledge aided by technology and embedded with ample educational resources for academic excellence.
The Senate further ratified an approval made by the University management on the establishment of the Centre for Hausa Language, History, Monument and Culture, to serve as a research hub on the evolution, impact, growth and development of the Hausa language not only in Hausa land, but Nigeria, Africa and the World at large.
The meeting also approved the Second Semester examination results for the College of Postgraduate Studies of the University.
The Senate also approved the 2026/2027 Academic Calendar of the University, with the First Semester expected to commence from 30th August and end on the 28th December, 2026.
