The management of Federal University Dutsin-Ma, FUDMA, has vowed to sanction staff found wanting in attitude to work and attendance. It said it will no longer condone acts contrary to university regulations and conditions of service.
Vice Chancellor, Prof. Mohammed Khalid Othman, gave the warning on Wednesday, 17th June 2026. He spoke during an interactive session with Provosts, Deans, Directors, and Heads of Department and Unit at the Senate Chamber, Main Campus.
Prof. Othman said management had observed a worrisome trend of lateness, truancy, and irregular reporting among some staff. He described the habit as harmful to the growth and reputation of the institution.
“The University management has noticed with dismay the attitude of poor attitude to work by some staff. Culprits should desist or face the wrath of management,” he stated.
To curb the trend, the VC directed all Heads of Department and Unit to monitor staff under their offices. He mandated daily attendance registers and periodic audits to separate diligent staff from absentees.
He said heads must issue queries and warning letters to erring staff. Serious cases should be reported to the Registrar for disciplinary action. He warned heads against shielding negligent staff, saying violators would also be sanctioned.
“We shall be accountable for our deeds before our Creator. I am warning you against covering irresponsible staff who display truancy. If you are caught, you will face disciplinary measures,” he warned.
While enforcing discipline, Prof. Othman said management was investing in staff welfare. He said resources were being injected into the Main Campus to improve security, water, electricity, and other amenities.
He appealed for support to reduce congestion at the Take-off Campus by relocating some faculties and students to the Main Campus. He also urged prayers for God’s protection and guidance.
Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academics, Prof. Abubakar Sadiq Sulaiman, backed the VC. He said management was improving staff welfare and urged staff to reciprocate by rededicating themselves to work.
Registrar, Dr. Musa Ajiya, reminded participants of extant laws on public service and university administration. He advised strict compliance to avoid sanctions.
The session ended with a question-and-answer segment. Deans and directors sought clarifications on the new attendance policy and other administrative issues. Management assured them the measures were for accountability, not witch-hunting.
The directive signals stricter monitoring across FUDMA ahead of the next academic session, with emphasis on discipline and service delivery.
