The Governing Council and Management of the Federal University Dutsin-Ma (FUDMA) is saddened by the passing of Hon. Ibrahim Baba Chai-Chai, an external member of the Council, who died on Monday, December 8, 2025, after a prolonged illness at the age of 73.

Born on January 17, 1952, in Chai-Chai, Hon. Chai-Chai had a distinguished career in education and politics, serving in various capacities, including as a Classroom Teacher, Store Keeper, and Chairman of Dutse Local Government Council.

Hon. Chai-Chai’s political career spanned over two decades, during which he served as a Member of the House of Representatives, Special Adviser on Political Parties, and Commissioner of Land and Environment in Jigawa State. He was also a National Ex-officio of the All Peoples’ Congress (APC) and a Special Adviser on Due Process to the Jigawa State Governor.

The late Council member was appointed an external member of FUDMA Governing Council by the Federal Government in June 2024.

The University’s Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council, HE Ali Abubakar Jatau, and Vice Chancellor, Prof. Mohammed Khalid Othman, expressed their condolences to the family of the deceased, describing him as a humble, unassuming, and indefatigable statesman.

“Hon. Ibrahim Chai-Chai lived an excellent life of hard work, dedication, and commitment; a life of great accomplishment and thus, deserved our prayers for his soul to rest in peace,” they said. The University’s leadership prayed that Allah would forgive his sins, admit him into Jannatul Firdaus, and grant the family, people of Jigawa State, and FUDMA, the courage and fortitude to bear the loss.

A delegation from FUDMA, led by Prof. Bashir Aliyu Sallau, Dean, Faculty of Arts, visited Chai-Chai to convey the University’s condolences to the family. The delegation presented food items to the family and expressed gratitude for the deceased’s contributions to the University and the nation.

Alhaji Bashir Baba Chai-Chai, a brother to the deceased, thanked FUDMA Council and Management for sympathizing with the family, wishing the University’s stakeholders Allah’s blessings and guidance in all their undertakings.

Hon. Ibrahim Baba Chai-Chai was buried on the same day at Chai-Chai, Dutse Local Government Area of Jigawa State.

The University’s Management and staff join the family, friends, and colleagues of Hon. Chai-Chai in mourning his passing, praying that his soul will rest in eternal peace.
