A shocking incident of attempted rape has rocked the Area F Staff Quartets of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Zaria community, as a middle-aged man, married with two wives, was apprehended and severely beaten by the victim’s family members after he allegedly tried to rape his sister-in-law.
According to eyewitnesses, the suspect had been trying to lure the victim, who is the sister of his second wife, for some time. He had called her earlier to check if anyone was home, and believing she was alone, he went to the house located at Dodo Mustapha Ring Road, ABU Staff Quarters, Samaru.
Upon arrival, the suspect knocked on the gate, and the victim, unaware of the danger, opened it for him. He then instructed her to lock the gate, which she did. With the gate locked, he attempted to grab the victim, tearing her hijab and trying to pull her down. However, the victim resisted and shouted for help.
Unbeknownst to the suspect, the victim’s parents and brother were waiting inside the house and sprang into action when they heard her cries. They apprehended the suspect and administered a severe beating, leaving him in a coma. The university’s security personnel later arrived at the scene and took the suspect into custody.
The university authorities have yet to release an official statement on the incident, but the case is expected to be handed over to the police for further investigation and prosecution.
