The immediate past Vice-chancellor of Federal University Gusau, Professor Magaji Garba, has received Presidential pardon alongside 174 other convicts and former convicts, on Thursday.
Professor Magaji Garba, aged 67, who is number 41 on list of those pardoned, and who was sentenced in 2021 to seven years for obtaining money by false pretense had spent three years at Kuje Custodial Centre.
Professor Garba’s prison term was reduced to four years due to good conduct and advanced age.
President Tinubu granted clemency to the former Vice-chancellor and most of the other convicts based on the reports that they had also shown remorse and good conduct.
The President also considered several other factors such as old age, the acquisition of new vocational skills, or enrolment in the National Open University of Nigeria, to forgive the convicts.
