In a groundbreaking achievement, the University of Lagos (UNILAG) has unveiled Africa’s first university-based automobile assembly plant.
Located in Lagos, the facility is the result of a partnership between UNILAG and Nord Automobiles. Since its inauguration on November 10, 2022, the plant has been assembling vehicles and drones, training students, and driving Nigeria’s entry into advanced automotive technology.
The UNILAG-Nord Auto Assembly Plant boasts a research and development center, assembly line, showroom, and after-sales workshop. The Plant also serves as a training ground where students gain hands-on experience while contributing to Nigeria’s industrial growth.
According to Faduyilemi Fajimi, UNILAG has taken the path of quiet delivery, producing real results that speak louder than words, adding that “this initiative not only strengthens Nigeria’s auto industry but also cements UNILAG’s reputation as a hub for innovation, education, and homegrown manufacturing excellence.”
