The Kaduna State Wing of the Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT) has given the Kaduna State Government 21 days ultimatum to implement the agreed 72,000 naira minimum wage.
In a Friday statement signed by the State Chairman, Ibrahim Dalhatu, the union expressed its dismay over the government’s reluctance to implement the minimum wage agreement which was signed on 2nd December, 2024 and was meant to be effective from November, 2024.
“The agreement has been partially implemented except for workers in the Local Government service where primary school teachers belong. One of the reasons advanced was that the state government was keen to ascertain the exact number of its workers, which was presented as precondition for the implementation of the minimum wage and consequential adjustment.
“The verification exercise was carried out on all the workers in the State, Local Government staff inclusive…,” statement reads.
The NUC lamented that despite the union’s suspension of its intended strike in September, 2025 with the intervention of the Special Adviser to the Governor on Labour Matters, Comrade Adamu Samaila, who promised the payment of the minimum wage by September ending, the minimum wage was still not paid.
“To the Union’s dismay, when the salaries of September 2025 were paid, it became obvious that the minimum wage and its consequential adjustment were conspicuously absent.
“In view of the foregoing, the Nigerian Union of Teachers, Kaduna State Wing, is hereby, issuing a twenty one (21) days ultimatum effective from today, 2nd October, 2025 for the government to address this issue or face strike action,” the statement concluded.
