President Bola Tinubu has approved the appointment of Professor Yahaya Isa Bunkure as the new Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Education, Zaria (FUEZ).
The announcement was made on Wednesday in a statement issued by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
Prof. Bunkure who is a renowned academic in science education, will transition from his current role as Vice-Chancellor of Sa’adatu Rimi University of Education in Kano.
In a series of concurrent appointments for the education sector, the President also named Engineer Abdurrazaq Abubakar Nakore as Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of Yusuf Maitama Sule Federal University of Education, Kano. Professor Abdullahi Tukur Kodage was appointed as the Vice-Chancellor of the same Kano-based institution.
According to the Presidency, these appointments are “part of ongoing efforts to strengthen leadership in Nigeria’s education system and ensure smooth governance in the newly upgraded universities.”
The Federal University of Education Zaria is one of four former Federal Colleges of Education upgraded to full-fledged universities between 2022 and 2023. In line with governing laws, the new Vice-Chancellor will serve a five-year term.
