A distinguished Professor of Regional Economic Integration Law and Practice in Africa, Professor Muhammed Tawfiq Ladan of Nigeria, has identified the unique contributions of AfCFTA law to the multilateral trading system and international economic law.

He made this submission at the 11th African Union Commission on International Law (AUCIL) Forum at the African Union Headquarters in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

According to Professor Ladan, accelerating the implementation of the AfCFTA Agreement is crucial to addressing the challenges faced in the last six years of operational take-off. He highlighted strategic recommendations on how to accelerate AfCFTA implementation in an inclusive, equitable, and sustainable manner.

In his paper titled, “Acceleration of Implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) Law’s Unique Contributions to the Multilateral Trading Regime and International Economic Law”, Professor Ladan emphasized the need for collective efforts to drive the progressive realization of the single market.

The Professor’s submission comes as the AfCFTA celebrates its fifth anniversary and undergoes a review to make it a more effective model for achieving deeper economic integration and creating a competitive single market for trade and investment.

Professor Ladan’s recommendations aim to unlock new opportunities for African businesses and citizens, and to promote economic integration and cooperation in Africa. His submission highlights the importance of the AfCFTA in transforming Africa’s economy and improving the lives of Africans.
